Tags in Appraisal Bureau are a flexible way to organize your artworks. They work similarly to Gmail labels and can be used for curatorial lists, shipping groups, internal notes, or thematic categories like “Paintings with Flowers.”
Each tag has two data fields:
Attribute (or Category) – such as Color, Theme, or Exhibition
Detail – such as Red, Floral, or Art Basel 2025
This makes tags both searchable and scalable.
1. What Tags Are Used For
Grouping works for curatorial or exhibition planning
Creating internal filters (e.g. Needs Review, Hold for Consignment)
Organizing artworks for shipping or logistics
Adding metadata such as medium, style, or condition
Tagging thematic elements like Color: Blue or Subject: Portrait
Or anything that you need! Tags are elastic and unlimited
2. How to Tag Artworks
You can apply tags either in bulk or individually. Artworks can have multiple tags.
To tag in bulk (from the Portfolio page):
Go to the Portfolio tab
Select one or more artworks
Click the “Tag” icon at the top
Choose an existing tag or create a new one
Enter both the Attribute and Detail fields
To tag an artwork individually:
Open the Artwork record
Click “+ Tag”
Select or create a tag by entering both fields: Attribute and Detail
3. How to Manage Tags
From the main Dashboard, click “Manage Tags” to control visibility or make changes.
You can:
Turn tags ON or OFF
ON: tags appear on artworks and in filters
OFF: tags are hidden, but not deleted
Edit the Attribute or Detail of a tag
Delete a tag entirely (this removes it from all artworks)
Tip: If you're not ready to delete a tag but don't want it to display, just turn it OFF.
4. Tag Visibility Rules
Tags must be turned ON to be visible in the Dashboard or on artworks
Tags that are OFF are hidden but still stored — you can toggle them back on at any time
